It is good to do hard things sometimes....to be reminded that the hard thing we are doing is 1.) our choice and 2.) not that terribly hard given the fire through which others have walked. In honor of Veterans Day, perhaps you will join me in completing 100 burpees. I will be thinking of several veterans whose lives have been deeply connected to my own as I complete my century. Below is a post from my personal page..... Growing up, nearly every male relative I could name was a veteran. My family traces service back to the Union Army....even to the Revolutionary War. I thought everyones family consisted of dozens who had served in the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines. I thought every family flew COLORS on Pearl Harbor Day, D-Day, V-J-Day...etc et al..... Dad remains my most treasured veteran. I still shake my head in wonderment....Tinian, Saipan, Okinawa. How the good-god-damn did that teenage Western PA boy ever make it back to Butler Co alive? Subract from Dad any macho bravado that you think may accompany a veteran regarding his time dragged through hell, and you might be getting a smidge closer to what I learned from him through the years: power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely; freedom is a gift from God, not doled out by a govt; when you think youre having a bad day - - - remember what I told you about Marpi Point. May the Universe wrap in her arms all those who have been taken from us as they served causes for freedom and goodness and right.....as well as the civilians so damned to be caught in the crossfire. Thank you veterans who walk among us. May your struggle not be in vain. May peace prevail. Come Lord Jesus.
