It is hard to appreciate what it takes building the wine tasting room that will overlook the Roaring River. First you have to deal with the river and that was not easy. It took 11 months to get the environmental design from the consultants. We had to be out of the flood path and plain, at certain elevations to meet code. The architect had to design the building around that. We had to deconstruct the old grist mill, take out the machinery 5 feet under the soil, and what was sticking out of the ground, and the two stacked walls. They were in the floodplain and we were not allowed to build so close to the rivers. The laws have changed drastically since the early 1800s. Also, we had to be about 22 ft up from the river at the lowest point of our building. This is adding a lot of cost but the view will be AMAZING!
