It is late and I should be asleep. Instead, I am at the computer watching clip from news programs and interviews about Obamacare. It all strikes me as odd. Other than the fact that anything from the government that is so complex that it takes thousands of pages to explain is bound to fail from its own internal confusion, Obamacare takes over a significant percentage of our gross national product. Actually it is more than 15%. People who couldn’t make money selling liquor and running a bordello are now running our health care. When I was watching TV a couple of years ago and saw Obama make his famous you can keep your healthcare statement, I just started laughing. There were factors at work that made the statement ridiculous on its face. At the time the statement was made, the issue was in doubt. Obama needed support for his plan and the promise that people could keep their health insurance apparently helped him gain support. Well, now the other shoe has dropped. In the neighborhood of 1,000,000 have already had their policies canceled. It turns out that an IRS memo estimated that between 40% and 67% of those privately insured would lose their policies because of Obamacare. This would be in the neighborhood of 14,000,000 policies canceled. Another reason why Obama’s promise was not possible is that people who could afford to buy insurance have to be forced into the exchanges and pay the boosted rates to subsidize those who couldn’t otherwise afford insurance. Forcing people into the exchanges is one of the essential parts of Obamacare. The explanation from the liberal side is that Obamacare is not canceling the policies. They say that if your insurance company changes anything in the policy, it is not the policy anymore and is not grandfathered in. That’s right folks, if your premium goes up, if your co-pay changes, if prescription coverage changes, if anything changes your old policy is no longer legal. Every policy I have ever had has changed every year. Slick isn’t it. So I watched an Obama spokesman say that it is not Obamacare, it is the insurance companies canceling the policies. So, what do we know? Obama said that people could keep their policies. He knew this was not true. What a world we live in where up is down, and any statement made by a politician can be redefined at a later date when it is proven to be untrue. All politicians fib a little bit. Let’s face facts. Anyone who told the truth could not get enough votes in most cases to be elected to high office. This guy we have now is setting a new standard. His record for misleading the American public may never be broken. We’ve passed 60 homeruns, the four minute mile, and the number of hotdogs that can be consumed but Obama’s record could truly stand the test of time.
