It is so cool to be living here among a multitude of cultures. Other than the natives, people come here from all over the world seeking the perfect surf. Our current guests are from Germany which has been very interesting. Homeschooling is illegal there and I could read their reaction immediately when they heard weve always homeschooled. We are the first ones of that kind theyve ever met. After several days of getting to know my kids and falling in love with them, last night we had a barbecue and they relaxed enough to bring up the topic. They asked me a multitude of questions and suddenly seemed really intrigued by it all. Im glad they were able to get a true picture of the beauty of homeschooling. On another note, I got a better picture of the school system here in Nicaragua. Our workers were curious to know where is this place called Germany which they seemed to never have heard of. So we pulled out the big atlas and gathered around. One thing led to the next and they were asking where this was and that. Even the retired local school teacher didnt know and said they dont have atlases or maps in the schools here. They are too much money she said. Ive got another project idea brewing...
