It is with much anger and frustration that I write this post. Today, the Minister for Agriculture, Mr Simon Coveney announced the funding for animal rescues throughout Ireland. €1,867,200 to 142 organisations- sounds a lot doesnt it?? Consider that 13.6 million went to the greyhound and horse racing industry in this years budget and it puts things into perspective. And what of our local rescues? We know Mo Chara rescue have taken approximately 100 dogs from North Tipp Pound this yr, at a cost to them of E200-300 per dog. We know all Mo Chara dogs are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and treated for parasites. Their grant of E7000 today has left them with a shortfall of over E5000 to make up in vet fees. In comparision, a South Tipperary rescue who does not neuter before rehoming, has received over E13,000- can I ask, where is the fairness??? What guidelines are set out to decide who deserves what, and who decides? Serious errors in judgement have been made in determining these grants today, and because of it many deserving rescues face heading into the new year already in debt and wondering if they can keep their doors open throughout 2015. While other organisations masquerading as rescues are rubbing their hands together in glee tonight. Its enough to make you sick..... This is not a plea for funds, this is a plea to action. Its too late for anything to be done now about this years grants, but what we do now will determine next years outcome. Read the article below, note what rescues have received what amounts, and with it in mind please make your feelings known. Make the people responsible sit up and listen, make them accountable and make them understand the value of our rescues! This injustice and apathy towards rescue animals simply cannot continue!!!!
