It sucks being sick on Christmas Day. Having said that, my annual viewing of the romantic comedy, “Love, Actually”, has taken the rough edge off the inevitable ennui of a sick day. I am annually amazed at the talents of Richard Curtis (writer/director) and his staff in weaving the eight subplots (publicists claim- I count nine) into a cohesive whole. Hugh Grant as PM dancing to the Pointer Sisters; Liam Neeson as the stepfather to the cute kid who is in love; Colin Firth’s love interest, “Aurelia”; Mark displaying his unrequited love for Juliet (a stunning Keira Knightly) via cue cards. Heartbreak evolving into happiness. Self-realization and strength of character. Perhaps I identify most with the hapless Bill Nighy (“Billy Mack”)- who feels his best years are behind him and is cynical of his current offerings. Alas! I wax philosophic- perhaps the product of a double dose of NyQuil. My rant is over... Now for a nap..... Merry Christmas everyone....
