It was 2009 in a hotel lobby in Berlin during the IAAF World Championships when Howard Aries, God rest his soul, the President of the JAAA, asked my about my opinion on the order of their 4 X 100m Relay. My question to Howard was, Can Usian Bolt run with the baton in his left hand? His answer was of course he can. My reply then why dont you run him on the second leg? The curve punishes the fastest sprinters as Inertia is proportional to the square of the velocity. Run Bolt, whose Vmax in near 12.5 m/sec, on the second leg and reap the benefits. Alas Bolt apparently suffers the same affliction as another on of the worlds greatest sprints. Carl Lewis and apparently USAIN Bolt feel the need to change hands with the baton upon receiving it in the left hand. It relegated Carl to anchor, which I suspect was not an unwelcome assignment and puts Boly on third or fourth leg. Though I had a photo but somehow screwed up. So much for my techno wizardry.
