The Sultan, Boko Haram and the definition of a Muslim. George Onmonya Daniel _________________________ THis morning I saw reports on some of the online magazines, dailies and on the social media that the Sultan of Sokoto said Boko Haram are not Muslims. Thats what a lot of people say nowadays. It is not the definition the Sultan give to Boko Haram that is the issue here, it is what Boko Haram say they are that is the matter. To say Boko Haram are not Muslims shows how naïve the Sultan is over the Boko Haram imbroglio or rather how dishonest he is about it. That Boko Haram is an Islamic sect with extreme views due to their own interpretation the Holy Quran is not debateable. The Sultan of all people should know that. Boko Haram is a group trying to copy Islamic terrorist groups in the Middle East and around the globe who are fighting the West because they see the West as the enemy and threat to Islam. Christianity is part of this West or to them it is a Western religion, so the followers of this religion become target. And the Sultan is claiming they are not Muslims? What then are they? Does the Sultan have any idea of what is going on? My advise is that if he doesnt know what is going on he should keep quiet. Boko Haram is an Islamic sects but majority of Muslims are not Boko Haram members as they do not agree with the sect. Over the years Boko Haram have targetted Muslim scholars who disagree with them. Their bombs have killed a lot of Muslims as well as Chrstians, and nowadays they attack and kill everyone. Yes, Muslims have suffered too. But to say Boko Haram are not Muslims is denial and propaganda. I expect more from the Sultan. I expect the truth from a man. I will really love to see the Sultan tell us who a Muslim is.
