» It was 2am September 30th 2013, my phone rang, it was a call from Cynthia. I grumbled at first but managed to pick up the call and wondered why she would call at such a time. Her voice was shaky and I instantly knew something was terribly wrong. Cynthia who happened to be not just an ex- departmental mate but also a good friend was in a really big dilema. This is her story: Two months back, precisely July 26th this same year, it was a cold and rainy friday night as she had explained. She had closed very late from work and traffic on the main land in Lagos that night was horrible. The standstill lasted over 3hours. Suddenly, two men dressed as ‘Police Officers’ approached her car and succesfully forced her out of it and into a nearby bush. It was barely 9:40pm. She always had been told to surrender totally if ever attacked. Both men then took turns in raping her, threatening her and then fled. She managed to crawl out of the bush, got into her car and cried her life out. She got home 11:23pm that night and her husband was in no mood, he was visibly in rage. She tried explaining to him that she was robbed at gun point but Kunle Ayolakin, her husband wasn’t ready to listen. He calmed down the following morning and tried consoling her. She felt better and decided to open up to him. ‘Baby, yesterday was terrible, I don’t know how to explain this to you’..she sobbed. Before she could utter another line, Kunle held her close and whispered to her ‘Forget it dear, as long as you are right here..that’s okay by me’. ‘Please don’t talk about last night, I don’t want us talking about it. I know it must have been terrible, I’v been there, I understand’ he said as he adjusted his tie. He grabbed his keys and left for work early saturday morning. Getting raped wasn’t the problem actually, NOW! She is pregnant. Kunle and Cynthia had been married for 7years and not for once did she conceive. Now, she is carrying a 9weeks old baby in her womb for a man she doesn’t know. ‘What would she do’ she queried. Pls HELP!…. Does she sit her ever busy husband down to tell him she was raped that night? Or does she call him and give him the ‘goodnews’ that she is pregnant for him? Or does she abort and carry on as though nothing happened? Let’s hear ur views please, what would you advise her to do?
