It was 9 a.m. and raining, which is not always a happy event in Los Angeles. The rain heightens the sludge and piles garbage in the open gutters. It pulls hillsides out from underneath houses, collapses cliffs, and tosses pools of dark ooze onto the highways. If a rain lasts for more then two days in L.A., people get real moody.
