It was Murray’s first test at SW19 with new coach Amelie Mauresmo and a match he openly admitted to being nervous for. “The way the match was going, the way he was playing, I was happy to finish in straight sets,” Murray said. “If my level let up a little bit, he could have won the third set, for sure.” Honorary Match of the Day: [16] Fabio Fognini (ITA) d Alex Kuznetsov (USA) 2-6, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1, 9-7 Ever the entertainer, the Italian No.16 seed was Monday’s only man to come from a two-set deficit, this one against an American qualifier. Fans packed to the outer edges of Court 18 to watch the match, which finished in the early evening. Upset of the Day: Maria Kirilenko (RUS) d [18] Sloane Stephens (USA) 6-2, 7-6(8) This match opened the day on Court 18, and a streak of 11 straight majors in which Stephens had made at least the second round was over at its finish. The American No.18 seed was defending quarter-final points here, but couldn’t overcome early inconsistencies and then the former world No.10’s six match points late in the second set. It was just the Russian’s second win in a two-month comeback after injury. Tweet of the Day: There was no match play for 2004 champion Maria Sharapova on Monday, but a few lucky fans got her autograph after practice. Stat of the Day: What a time for a first win. Luke Saville, the boys’ junior champion here in 2011, won his first-ever Grand Slam match on Monday with a respectable four-set victory over an on-the-rise Dominic Thiem. Not only was it his first win at a major, but it was his first win on the main tour. “I read on twitter that this is my first tour level match, so its special to do it here at Wimbledon,” he said after the win. Quote of the Day: After being out for nearly four months because of an ankle injury, Victoria Azarenka won her first match since the Australian Open on Monday. “I was super happy to get a win. Im just very happy to be able to play. This is what I love to do. The best feeling is to play pain‑free. Thats whats important for me.”
