Iten-Kapsowar road as been in the news for as long as some of us - TopicsExpress

Iten-Kapsowar road as been in the news for as long as some of us can remember.Vehicles have been stuck in year and in out especially during the rainy season which has seen motorists incur untold losses due mechanical breakdown. Farmers and travellers too have a story to tell, albeit negative.Iten-Bugar section (12 km stretch) has been going under construction since 2010 by Kiu Construction Company.. Bugar-Cheptonge-Kapsowar (37km) as been tendered as Onesimus K. Murkomen: The Elgeiyo Marakwet Senator puts to two Chinese companies who have not started any construction work. On Thursday last week, I spoke to Kiu Construction co CEO Kariuki Theuri who confided to me that he had not been paid by the government. I asked Theuri why it had taken so long and his response was: Koross, it is expensive to construct a road. The government has not released any funds but we expect some money any time from now. Note-No funds from the government. He however said should enough money be released, it will only take the company three weeks (90 days) maximum to have the 12 kms tarmacked. It is therefore upon our leaders to compel the government to release the said funds. Reliably, the Chinese slated to do the remainder Bugar-Kapsowar section may not commence this work anytime soon. As Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen promised that he will ensure the road is tarmacked, I still have hopes in him.I am kindly urging him to push the government release the said funds. Our other leaders seem contented with the situation. Our Women Rep Dr Hon Susan Chebet is literally nowhere. Does Dr Chebet know mothers who actually she represents need to give birth in an hospital say Msekekwa, Chebiemit, Chebara or Cheptongei or any other health centre? Does she care about such women during such weather? Hon William Kisang, Marakwet West MP uses this road more often and he should be the one making noise. Dr James Murgor has his most trips end not far past Bugar and may not feel the heat of how bad the road is. Kangogo Bowen will still say, I too have my area being tarmacked! Something has to be done. Meanwhile, quick measure have to be taken to arrest the situation.Iten-Bugar section interestingly has no By-pass.But as a quick solution, Simotwo-Bugar road need to be fixed into a all weather road. The remainder section need to be graveled and drained. As we speak, not even a single culvert exists between Bugar-Kapsowar road.Even if the road is graveled (like it has been) it will still be in horrible state even with the slightest showers. Something just needs to be done and it is urgent!
