Its November 19th. Time for Al Stewart historical music. On this day in 1942, the Red Army launched Operation Uranus, the counter offensive to releave Stalingrad. The Germans had been trying to take the city since August while their flanks were covered by the Romanian, Italian and Hungarian Armies. The Soviets struck well to the north and south of Stalingrad, destroyed the weak German allies and managed to surround and eventually destroy the German 6th Army. Whenever you have a bad day, stop and thank God that you were not born a German or Russian boy in the early 1920s. Also, November 19, 1942 was my mothers 12th birthday.
