Its like Obama and Cuomo operate from the same playbook and use the exact same tactics; spread dis-information, divide, get people angry with the dis-information and try to steamroll their plan through before the public realizes theyve been conned. Cuomo has taken to the airwaves and conference calls (with pre-arranged questions) to try and convince the public that his tax freeze is the greatest thing ever and they need to yell at legislators to pass it. There are reasons its getting bi-partisan resistance. My reason is its an unworkable scam being used by Cuomo to deflect blame on to the counties to divert attention away from his failure to achieve any meaningful spending cuts or mandate relief. Any time Cuomo has to detail his proposals, his aides have to spend the next day clarifying what he said. Why he cant be clear on what hes saying is understandable given that the truth isnt as pretty as the fantasys he spins. The latest example is him continuing to spout that there are 10,500 local governments in New York. Its not true. The U.S. census bureau puts the number at 3,403. Youd think an ex-AG, supposedly intelligent man, and Governor of NY might know that. But that doesnt fit his narrative. Ive even asked his aides to tell him to stop with that lie but somehow....they havent clarified that yet.... As for the 10,5000 hes talking about, around 6,500 or so could be eliminated right now and it wouldnt save taxpayers a nickel because they cost nothing. No employees, no retirements, no cost in any way. Theyre on paper to clarify things like lighting districts etc. But that doesnt fit his narrative so he continues, unethically and dishonestly, knowing the truth, but not telling the taxpayers the truth. He claims that They told me I could never reduce costs. The state is spending less money than they have in 50 years. I spend less money than the preceding 10 governors, Democrats and Republicans.’’ Another twisting of words and another lie. The state budget this year is $140 billion. He spends more than anyone. His aides needed to scramble and clarify that his budget division estimates that the rate of the growth of state spending during Cuomo’s three years in office has been lower, as an annual percentage, than the budgets by governors going back until the late 1950s. Terrific. By the way, all he did there was stop the automatic escalators that had been in past budgets. A good move but spending is still way up in actual dollars even if the rate of growth has been slowed a bit. The wizard of Oz comes to mind.
