Ive been flummoxed by the term, lifestyle photography since I picked up a book at a the library. The phrase seems as trendy and pretentious as house made. The definition is essentially, documentary-style photos of everyday life, but the photos seem to be staged and somewhat polished, as if to depict the lifestyle the subjects and photographer wish to project. Everyday, were surrounded by beauty, and I aim to photograph that, but I feel compelled to use air quotes when teaching students, and suggesting we do a shoot using lifestyle props. If you have a take on this, Id like to hear it. Is Lifestyle Photography the new Environmental Portraiture?
