Ive been in interactive media and marketing on a supervisory or career-level since I can remember. I have always felt, since it burst on to the scene, social media marketing was a bunch of pie-in-the-sky number interpretations when dealing with actual conversions. That being said, the ROI is almost unbeatable. The reality is that most people actively engaging on social media with brands want something for free or a cheap laugh. Most marketing on social media is why the younger generation has turned to Twitter and now Instagram and left Facebook in a fury. Facebook has not harvested a long term crop of users so for companies looking for long term investments understand that Facebook is not seed planted on good soil. So in response to followers, or likes, Id rather just have people that really care about our mission and vision and want to support us as we work to change lives. Most marketing execs understand that social media, though newfangled is largely immeasurable even with its plethora of stats programs.
