Ive been watching the political scene with respect to Crimea, Russia and the Ukraine. As most know, my Maternal Grandmother was born in the Ukraine in a town just West of Odessa called Petrodolynski, which is on the Baraboi River. So, this serious set of events is of interest to me personally. I recently watched Putins speech as he defends the Russian action in Crimea, but I have issue with his logic he offered over the issue. Putin basically is arguing that Crimea wants to be part of Russia and that it is a highly strategic area, therefore, Russia offered stability to that area. The problem that I have with his logic is the simple fact that Crimea was part of a sovergn country, i.e., Ukraine. This would be no different than the Baja of Mexico wanting to become part of the US, voting on it, and then the US moving in and planting a flag there. What about the vote from the rest of the Ukraine as to whether or not Crimea can be annexed to Russia? So, in my opinion Putin is offering a very weak argument for his actions in the Ukraine. In addition, Putin cited all of the US military action during the past 20 years or so....Yugoslavia, Libya, Iran, Afghanastan, etc. What he fails to realize is that the US wasnt there to annex countries, but to squelch radical Muslims who pose a threat to us and the rest of the world. We were actually doing him a favor too. I do feel that Putin sought this opportunity to act now because he knows that Obama is a total pussy with respect to world politics. Putin knows that Obama will not push a military agenda to remedy the situation so who is going to stop him from scooping up Crimea? The more serious question, what else does Putin want to scoop up?...Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Georgia...????
