Ive had a lot of people message me asking my thoughts on the whole - TopicsExpress

Ive had a lot of people message me asking my thoughts on the whole #tay4hottest100, because, as Im sure youre all aware, Im a massive fan of hers. Okay so I have two main reasons why I think this is the best and funniest thing of 2015 so far. 1. It is attempting to destroy this whole hierarchy of music, which drives me insane. Were in this society where its all *caveman voice* indie music goooood, pop music baaaad, and its complete BS to me. Because music is a matter of opinion. So to say that someone who likes indie music is cool and alternative and a higher being than those who like pop music, who must be shallow young uneducated swine, is such a ridiculous idea. This countdown, which is perceived to be a countdown of the coolest songs, is taken as bible to so many people, many of those people who wouldnt even give pop music a chance if they were offered a million dollars, purely because of its label. I think its great that people are saying hey, wait, this was a really successful and record-breaking song, maybe it should be recognised, and it also makes me chuckle that people are so deeply offended by that. Is Taylor Swift entering your previous countdown really going to make a significant impact on your life, or just your ego? People are seriously acting like the world is ending. If you genuinely think youre above pop music, or any other genre for that matter, Im sorry, but youre very delusional, and also boring. You dont have to like pop music, as I said, its a matter of opinion, but you are in no way above it. 2. Its a genuinely good pop song. Again, music is subjective so I didnt really want to use good, but the production is brilliant, it is catchy, promotes a positive message, and actually has meaningful lyrics when they are broken down, Ive got this music in my mind saying its gonna be alright. So shouldnt a song be rewarded, no matter who it is by? People in defence of their precious radio station are calling her processed, untalented, garbage, pop (as if that is the ultimate insult); yet they refuse to consider that she is the most successful artist in the world right now, so she must be doing something right. And yes, I understand that it wasnt ever played on Triple J, which people are using as an argument, because no, it doesnt fit the typical target audience. But neither was Alanis Morissette, who placed three times in the countdown, which no one would riot about now, because shes cool. Also your precious Vance Joy is now touring with Taylor Swift, is he a sellout and permanently banished from your existence now? Itll be okay pretty bearded men, and quirky hippy women, shake it off. When this is all over you can go back to listening to the true indie music that Triple J plays; Lorde, Sia, and Lana Del Ray. Oh wait...
