Ive never been a fan of anyone ever having a search warrant to legally obtain anything from a safety deposit box. Regardless of what they think is it in, they could be wrong, even if there are deposit slips stating x deposit. Is there any proof that money was obtained illegally? Theres a 99% chance it was, but, lets just say it was not. Youre going to seize all that money without actual legitimate proof it was part of the drug ring? Its impossible to prove that. There are legitimate ways to clean money by washing it through legitimate business ventures making it legitimate. Smart criminals do that, which is why its incredibly hard within the burden of the law to ever seize caches of drug money because its always obtained legally. Ask any mobster, gang member, or person who has evaded taxes. Whether or not it can be viewed as fraud is completely up to interpretation and not fact. This is probably one of my primal fears that possession of large amounts of money automatically make you guilty of something. Its illegal to cross state borders with more than $10,000 in cash, and you have to fill out copious amounts of paperwork if youre ever caught. FOR NOTHING. As a person who absolutely hates banks, I may or may not have large amounts of money stashed away here and there like a pirate and would never want to be assumed to be a criminal. I am not vouching for people with stolen handguns, stolen vehicles, and 600+ grams of heroine...... that just caught my eye and I would rush to defend them in a second. They are definitely serving hard time for this, but, theres a good chance all of that money is staying put in their families bank accounts if they have a good defense team.
