Ive seen a lot of posts on depression and Robin Williams. Im so sad that hes gone. He was a great actor. A lot of people cannot understand how someone that was a comedian and made so many people happy could battle depression. It is very possible. In fact, its easy to hide negative feelings with laughter and smiles. Sometimes, people act out to make others laugh as their own outlet. Its easy to laugh at things and create an atmosphere of hilarity, but sometimes, its not so easy to just laugh at yourself. Sometimes, the struggle is so real that it becomes surreal. I knew someone like that. Hes no longer here with us, but I know thats why he laughed, because deep down inside of him he was hurting so badly. All he wanted was to be loved and not be lonely. He never felt accepted, even by his own family. Nothing he could do would amount to any good in his life, but he laughed and he caused others to laugh. My brother had a lot of psychological issues. He was never quite understood, although, I feel as though I had an understanding of him as his only sibling that no one else could have. He became desperate once, so very desperate that he intended to take his own life. I know that it was the Lord that spared his artery from being severed, as I had a few more years with him before he reached his final destination at the ripe age of 27. Ill never forget the many experiences I went through with him through his severe depression and his ups and downs. Dont let a smile fool you. Dont let laughter be the temperature gauge of someones wellbeing. Yes, laughter is the best medicine, but its only a bandage and like every bandage, it will fall off and there is a wound that needs to be healed. Keep your eyes open, your ears full and your heart ready to reach out to those that are hurting. Yes, depression is real and it can be fatal.
