I’m a late blooming star fruit. . .the ONLY BACK TO BACK WINNER of the Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition (a blind read out of Key West Fla) for both 1999 and 2000. For this I was mentioned on NPR’s Weekend Edition by Liane Hansen (retired) in July of 2000. Other than this brief slice of background I will not bore you with a ramble of biography. Its taken me 13 years to write and compile my two Social Science Fiction Short Story collections. I am the older than dirt father of Social Science Fiction. . . a genre where the boundaries of family and society are confused by imagination. In my story, Alpaca Potato, Jesus walks in pious pajamas among my family like a relative providing power and wonder tor my father’s curses. Jesus offers understanding to my mother’s pleas and whines over un-met appliance needs. And Jesus is the embodiment of hope to the adolescent boy (me) Daley-Boy. Jesus is like some living breathing lottery ticket . . the hope against all odds of obtaining the otherwise unattainable. . .from a new bicycle to that sweet pre-pubescent love object out on the playground. Daley-Boy buttonholes Jesus at bedtime begging The Son of God for an unconscious naked girl to a bicycle. Hey! Costs nothing to pray, right? Except maybe a promise to believe and worship Jesus forever. Let me repeat that. . .FOREVER! But, who knows! Jesus might come through, right? You never know! Sometimes he actually does! This thinking, begs the question,”What about when you break your promise to Jesus like Gramma Jelly did?” Things can get ugly like where Jesus had to put Gramma in a headlock in the driveway abd she damaged God’s wing when he tried to run away before Gramma could get her hands around Jesus’ neck. My short story collections are titled PRIZE WINNERS and PRIZE WINNER STEW WITH SMALL DOGS. Also, recently my first crime novel The Art Thief and my first Social Science Fiction Novel BLUE MOON were published by absolutelyamazingebooks; publisher Shirrel Rhoades. (former Exec at The Ladies Home Journal, Harper’s Magazine, and Marvel Comics where he brought us Captain Marvel.) Roades has recently launched his on-line publishing company -a small fish (a piranha) among large publishing whales. Aside from encouraging you to explore the popular and exploding e-book world . . I am writing because I would do 68 year old flips if you reviewed my two Short Story Collections. Each book contains one of the stories which won the Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition Grand Prize. (That is the same Lorian Hemingway –grand daughter of Ernest Hemingway. Lorian is a famous writer herself. –Didn’t you interview her, Terry?) ALPACA POTATO is the winning story in my book, PRIZE WINNERS. (although there are other prize winning stories in my collections as well) CHURCH OF THE BUNNY is the grand prize winner in PRIZE WINNER STEW WITH SMALL DOGS.. And as long as I’m boasting, heres my interview on Channel 19 Keys TV youtube/watch?v=FrKSJ4Ho7Pk …I hope you find the interview interesting and that you will respond. I play life’s lottery. Thank You.
