JOB DESCRIPTION Psychologist Job title: Tdh Psychologist for Juvenile Justice project Location: Based in Assiut Supervisor: TDH Juvenile Justice Project Coordinator (PC) in Assiut Supervises: None Working partners: Tdh partner local NGOs All Tdh offices Mission: - To provide a psychological assistance to the children in conflict with the law and their family. - To support and facilitates the psychological wellbeing activities of the children in conflict with the law (CICL) in the Juvenile Justice project. Background: Tdh in its current programming in juvenile justice throughout MENA region has embraced the key findings that are common to juvenile justice settings across the region: state operated community based alternatives to detention are limited and services within the community to assist children to rehabilitate are also limited. Tdh Egypt moved along with two assessments done in 2010 and 2011 on the Egyptian juvenile justice system that highlighted findings and recommendations tabled in relation to gaps which exist across the juvenile justice spectrum: • Coordination between all juvenile justice actors – governmental and non-governmental • Psychosocial program in social care institutions for girls • Update of the database of the Ministry of Justice on juvenile justice • Intervention at police station level • Promotion of alternatives to deprivation of liberty Based on the assessments, Tdh Egypt decided to implement a project to pilot improvements to the functioning of the existing system and its services and to introduce new services to support and strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency of the juvenile justice system. Duties: To provide psychological assistance to the beneficiaries 1. Work directly with beneficiaries and their families in need of psychological assistance in the social care institutions (SCI) or in the field. 2. Collaborate closely with other psychologists, MISA/SCI staff, social workers, and volunteers. 3. Report any problem conflict met in running activities to the PC. 4. Work with the Local Partner team and the SCI team to develop and conduct psychological activities / interviews in the SCI and in the field during family visit. 5. Assist in the development and implementation of the family support in the social care institutions. 6. Participate with social workers, and volunteers conducting the life skills program for the CICL. 7. Reinforce the work of the psychologists in various areas in the social care institutions. 8. Meet with staff on and work on improved case management processes - including improved assessment, support, reporting and post release follow upon, etc. 9. Contribute to ongoing training, coaching and capacity building of key staff in the social care institution as required to fulfill the intended elements of the Tdh project. 10. Promote the effective participation of all children in the activities, courses and programs. 11. Accomplish other assignments given by Project Manager. To enforce case management 1. Assume primary case management responsibility to project targeted children. 2. Ensure data is collected and collated to prove the achievement of project objectives. 3. Ensure a prompt and timely response to children determined and identified at ‘high risk’ through project activities. 4. Promote, ensure and establish the child as a central actor in case management practices. 5. Link the child, his/her family and community to child protection resources and networks of assistance. 6. Attend and participate in regular case management meetings. 7. Maintain case management files to a high standard, complete with up-to-date information. 8. Act in the best interest of the child. To support the CSP implementation 1. To commit to ensure the respect and the best implementation of the Child Protection Policy inside the project. 2. To comply with the system and procedures to implement Child Protection Policy inside Terre des hommes 3. Commits to inform the Project Coordinator and to deal with any case of any allegations or possibility of transgression, even potential, of the Child Protection Policy. To report internally 1. Collect and provide any qualitative and quantitative data requested by Project Coordinator (monthly reports, case reports…) 2. Contribute to internal monitoring and evaluation processes and directed by the Project Manager. Others Tdh may require additional functions and/or responsibilities on any given time. This demand will be subject to the principle of mutual agreement and must not offend the individual staff member his/her religious or ethnic values. Qualification and/or knowledge/experience required for the assignment Requirements Essential Level and type of education: - University degree in psychology Level of experience: - Minimum 3 years of work experience - Minimum 1 year working with CICL or street children in Egypt.
