JOKE response to e-petition re motorcycle excise duty Got a reply from some Civil Servant re the e-petition to bring excise duty for motorcycles in line with cars, ie, on CO2 emissions. Unless 100,000 replies are received then there can be considered by the Backbench Business Committee, The total stands at 15,000 at present so there is some way to go yet... another example of the minority being dealt a bum hand. The real reason, allegedly, is (and I quote) Unlike for cars, the European Union has not yet established a design type approval test for motorbikes that requires CO2 data to be produced for each model variant What a load of utter tosh!!! IF the Government wanted any parity between cars and bikes they could go it alone and create their own table or use Manufacturers figures. Their response goes on with some form of justification for stinging many motorcyclists: The Government believes that healthy public finances are essential for future growth and jobs What the hell has that got to do with paying £78 per year for a 650cc bike versus nothing for many cars that have a far bigger engine capacity?! Then, they show themselves up by trying to blame the last Government: The UK is still faced with the serious and unavoidable economic challenge of tackling the debts inherited from the previous Government And?? Your point is?! Bottom line... There will continue to be a disparity between larger motorcycles and cars for the foreseeable future. I, for one, am not surprised. After all, this is Democracy in Action ;-)
