JWANENG POLICE INVESTIGATE GANG RAPE Police in Jwaneng are investigating an incident in which four men raped a 20-year-old woman. In an interview with BOPA, station commander, Superintendent Theriso Thatayotlhe said the victim reportedly met one of the suspects at a drinking spot on May 24. The suspect later asked the woman to accompany him to his house to get some money. Superintendent Thatayotlhe said when they arrived, the suspect and three of his friends, who were in the house, raped the woman. The station commander said all the four suspects, whose age ranged between 20 and 21 years, were in police custody while investigations were still ongoing. He said in most of the rape incidents, suspects were somehow known to their victims. Meanwhile, the Jwaneng police were also investigating a case in which a businessman who owns a bar in Sese was attacked on Sunday night at his home. The station commander explained that the businessman was attacked by three men at Unit 3 in Jwaneng. He said the three suspects got away with three cell phones valued at three thousand pula and proceeds of the day amounting to P 1 600. Superintendent Thatayotlhe said the victim did not sustain any injuries while police investigations were still ongoing. The station commander expressed worry over the increased house break -ins, robbery and burglary incidents in Jwaneng. He explained that since the beginning of the year, there had been 20 cases of house break-ins, six robbery cases and 11 cases of burglary in which electronic devices such as laptops, LCD’s and cell phones had been the target. Superintendent Thatayotlhe called on all the local furniture shops managers to advise them to tighten their security as electronic devices that are targeted by these thieves are some of the products they sell. He said he will call a meeting with local entrepreneurs on the rampant robberies targeted at them and appealed to the business people to attend the meeting in good numbers. Superintendent Thatayotlhe has advised local entrepreneurs to reinforce security and avoid keeping money at home.
