January 3rd 2014 I was so glad I wasnt going through this alone and I was with john, if I hadnt of been with john I dont no how I would of got through things everyday, Elliott wasnt havnt a good day on the 3rd of jan. His oxygen levels kept dropping and he was on the highest of everything. His oxygen was at 80 and his ventalator presures were at 29 over 8 and his nitro was at 15 ( alot of you wont know what this means but its not good) at this point Elliott had a collapsed lung and his other lung was only just letting breaths in. Been on a ventilator can also damage your lungs. They needed to put elliott onto an even stronger ventilator called an Oscillator. At the point me and john went to get some air while they changed him to the new vent. Went we came back it was very emotional, looking at elliott on thw Oscillator was horrible it made his whole body shake and it was so loud it wasnt nice seeing him on it. After a few hours things still didnt seem like they were improving so at this point the consultant spoke to me and john and told us that Elliott might have to go on something called ECMO and they wouls ring and see if anywhere had any beds. we didnt have a clue what ECMO were but he soon told us and I really didnt want him to go on ECMO because that would of been the last option for Elliott atleast been on the vent we new there was always ECMO even tho we were dredding he might have to go on it. At this point elliott was going on ECMO but he had to be on the old ventilator he was on insted of the Oscillator. Theu switched elliott back to the old vent and out of the blue he seemed to have perked up a littlw bit and no longer needed ECMO!!! I was so overwelmed and happy that he didnt have to go on ECMO! Elliotts nurse Jen that was looking after him was fantastic she always made sure elliott looked clean and comfy even tho he was still stadated, she always tried to keep me and john occupied and talking to try take our minds off what was happening x
