Jeanne and I attended a family reunion yesterday and I learned an interesting fact from one of her 80 year old aunts. She remembers when she was in the fourth grade that Roy Hudgens announced that eventually schools would be integrated. They disagreed with him and she said of course Mr. Hudgens threw a piece of chaulk across the room and told us to wait and see. That would have been 25 or so years before the happening, sometimes during WW2. Mr. Hudgens was an amazing man. I also learned from one of Jeannes cousins that Marily Mcleod is living in Sumter. married and doing well. I sent her an invite to LHS memories. On the way home we did a drive through of Lynchburg . . . . It was sad to see. The school was all boarded up with storage building on the side and so many homes and stores gone from main street. On the way home we discussed the many things that lead to the demise of our small home town. I would love to hear some of your thoughts on the subject. FYI A couple of months ago my Great Grandson showed me how to use the satellie part of google maps to visit anywhere in the country. It was neat! It did show the sad state of affairs in Lynchburg, but allowed me to walk again the streets of New York City and to view places like Washington DC without leaving my desk.
