Jeff Uberti challenged me to post seven songs that changed my life. One per day. I barely have time to do this myself, so I wont challenge anyone else, sorry Jeff, the chain letters gonna end here, unless someone willingly takes up the challenge... so, here we go: Day 3: Kungfu Rick PSB (Public Smoking Banishment) Ok...so at some point in like 1997 I traded mix tapes with some dude in Ohio who had a distro and he put this entire 7 on the tape. This song was clearly an anthemic as the songs were gonna get... and he said in his letter that this band was from Chicago and were this unbelievable live band and if I ever got the chance to go see them...now...sight unseen and only known as these songs on a cassette... this band scared the shit out of me... I actually drove to Chicago to see them at the Fireside once and ended up just hanging out at the Clubhouse because I was seriously afraid to go see them. I went to their next show and learned a healthy lesson in perception because they were not only insane live, but it was so, so RIDICULOUS, too. Jason Z lit candles on top of his amp and generally looked crazy. The Dark Enforcer (the pterodactyl voiced singer - dressed in a ski mask, goggles and a black cloak) dove into the small crowd of people every song. Dave did the craziest scissor-kicks. the Other singer was an unassuming guy that would explode once every song started, then they had this crazy drummer flailing about and the OTHER guitar player was playing so fast I could barely tell what what was going on. ...seeing a grind band, well, at least one as crazy as this... was quite a new experience in sensory overload. On top of all that Ive above described: a bunch of their friends bought and wore childrens pirate sabre swords, eye patches and 3 point hats and had a sword fight during their set in the crowd...and this all happened in the span of like 20 minutes. It as the most ridiculous thing Id seen up to that point...I ended up eventually befriending them and they were amazing to watch them every single time. They wrecked themselves and their gear more than any other band. They were my entry point into the grindcore world of punk rock and similar metal/grind bands (who to this day are rarely impressive in comparison to KFRs humor/chaos combo).
