Jiu Jitsu Tip of the Day If you want to have an amazing offensive game in Jiu Jitsu, you must first have an impenetrable defense. I know it sounds counterintuitive but it is a Jiu Jitsu fact. Actively working your defense and making yourself un-tappable is the first step to opening up your offensive game. Imagine this scenario. When you attack and your attack fails, you will likely end up in a bad position. However, if your defense is solid and your attack fails, the worst thing that could happen is that you will put in a position that you no longer consider a bad position because of your defensive abilities. So basically ALL bad positions will disappear if you actively work your defense. With this mindset, you can then open up your offensive game and play with submissions freely when you are armed with the knowledge that nothing bad can happen to you. Actively working your defense will also force your mind to de-construct and reverse engineer submissions. This will lead to a better understanding of the submission. You cannot put a fancy roof on a house without first building a solid foundation. Your house will crumble very quickly. You also cannot build a submission game if you ignore the foundations of a solid defensive game. As always....Roll With Soul
