Jorge Claros scored in injury time to lift Honduras to a 1-0 victory over El Salvador on Friday and into the quarter finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup football tournament. Claros scored in the 2nd minute of injury time, snagging a pass from Edder Delgado in the penalty area and belting it pass Salvadoran keeper Dagoberto Portillo. With their 2nd win in 2 matches Honduras tops Group B standings with 6 points. They became the 2nd team to secure a quarter final spot, after Group A leaders Panama on Thursday. In the 1st match of the Group B double header, Jean Eudes Maurice scored twice to lead Haiti to a 2-0 upset victory over Trinidad and Tobago. The win, after a loss to Honduras in their tournament opener, kept Haiti in the hunt for a quarter final berth. Haiti used their speed to good advantage to pressure the Trinidad goal, and Maurice opened the scoring in the 16th with a shot that beat Trinidad keeper Jan Michael Williams. He added the insurance goal in the 52nd, pouncing on the looseball after Williams had deflected a shot. The Gold Cup continues on Saturday with Group C matches in SaltLake City, Utah, where the United States face Cuba and Costa Rica take on Belize. Thw winners of the North and Central America and Caribbean regional football championship will battle the 2015 champions for a place in the 2017 Confederations Cup.
