Just back from John Lewis to rectify the dishwasher situation. It was like being in a South of Scotland Electricity Board showroom in 1964 in terms of the product offering and the service (never before have I known a John Lewis partner turn her back on me contemptuously; if JL were a publicly listed company Id be shorting it). The choice was to order one not in stock and wait another three weeks on top of the three weeks plus one day that weve already waited, or to order one direct from the manufacturer and then arrange a private installation (having established that even when JL say they have machines in stock in their warehouse it transpires that they do not). I ended up saying: just let me have whatever is available. So Ive ordered direct from the manufacturer and arranged a private installation. Remind me, please, someone, what high street shops are for these days?
