Just back from hearing the Fresno Philharmonic, Master Chorale and Fresno State Concert Choir perform selected works by Wagner - a great time given to us for Christmas by Slade and Cherissa Wheeler. Theres nothing like live classical music and these groups performed very well. Wagner was such a brilliant and (for obvious reasons) disturbing performer. Certainly he was a major transitional figure in Germanic culture. His music was almost darkly prophetic. But, honestly, its no longer possible to hear The Ride of the Valkyries without seeing a flight of attack helicopters.
