Just caught up to the Younkers fire story back home in Des Moines. I remember so many things about the flagship store, but my favorite memory is about the notions department. I learned to sew when I was 9 to 12 years old with Sue Gronert Sinnwell, and it was always a special treat to be able to shop for buttons and other quality notions at Younkers downtown. I had such a focus on buttons that my grandmother gave me her entire button collection when I was 10 or 11 years old!
