Just dropped daughter Caroline Salley off at Palmetto Girls State. We got back late last night from a short father-daughter trip to DC for a reunion dinner where the following had the privilege of meeting her: the (current or former) Attorney General of the United States, Counselor to the President of the United States, Justice of the United States Supreme Court, Justice of the Michigan State Supreme Court, Chief Justice of the High Court of American Samoa, United States District Judge of Texas, Domestic Policy Advisor to the President of the United States, United States Congressman from Indiana, Chairman of the Vice-Presidents Council on Competitiveness, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Director of the Internal Revenue Service, American Ambassador to East Timor, five Assistant Attorneys General of the United States (Civil Rights, Antitrust, Tax, Legal Counsel, and Legal Policy), General Counsel of the Federal Trade Commission, two presidents of national public interest legal advocacy groups, a nationally-syndicated radio talk show host, and a smattering of law professors (UVa, Texas, Northwestern, etc.). She was, of course, the most interesting one in the room.
