Just found a rare poem that was miraculously saved from my youth: a burn party when I ceremoniously burned most of my childhood verses and prose in our fireplace.... Just in time for Fall....yay hoo! Brown Leaves by Diana Smart Brown leaves...flying, twisting Then leveling in the air. Gliding back and forth on their faces Soundlessly but a whisper! Where will they land? Such silly things They seem not to know Or even care. But to fly, drift! Restlessly, recklessly curiously, mischieviously Laughing quietly or sober (which?) But for sure lively With vitality Riding on cool breezes Freer than birds Strangely, though, and indeed sad To watch the leaf land And die. I wonder if I ever read this one to my brother, Michael Smart? He endured plenty of poetry readings growing up! Funny to see a piece of paper in my own handwriting from many years ago. I came across another piece, also: a hand designed Christmas Card for my grandpa with 4 poems typed and glued into it from 1971. These are awesome treasures to me! :D
