Just got back from seeing Captain Phillips. Very good movie -- especially since you know everything thats going to happen before you see it on the screen. But you still find yourself on the edge of your seat. Kudos to both Tom Hanks (who plays Captain Phillips) and Barkhad Abdi (who plays the leader of the group of pirates) for their excellent performances. A warning though -- liberals and conservatives will have different reactions to this movie. One question that will occur to both (especially since this IS a true story) is why the crew was unarmed. I mean, they knew they were in waters where piracy was a very real and distinct possibility. Its hard to believe that four men would have been able to board, much less take over, such a ship if the crew of 20(!) had been armed. And everyone will recognize that the Navy Seals did exactly what had to be done and did it extremely well. But what will separate the liberals and the conservatives is whether the question of how do the pirates get to the point of feeling that their only option in life is to be a pirate. Conservatives wont even think of that question as being worthy of consideration. They will only see this story as more reasons why we (the U.S.) need to keep a very strong military. But the bottom line is that everyone will enjoy the movie. Thumbs up from me.
