Just got home from a visit with the most amazing chiropractor Dr. - TopicsExpress

Just got home from a visit with the most amazing chiropractor Dr. Steve Smith from stevesmithdc/ Dr. Smith spent 2 hours with me and even took the time to explain my injury using drawings and an interactive program on his computer. I have been diagnosed with Illiopsous Tendonitis. Dr. Smith put me thru several exercises and it appears my right hip muscles are not firing at all, my left ones are a power house. He also believes it is possible that I have a stress fracture in my hip joint (he had a much better name for it that is escaping me) that we could look for with an MRI but, since the rest period for the tendonitis and the fracture are very close, he is waiting. I have been told no running for 4 - 6 weeks, possibly more. He has started treatment, that I will continue twice a week and he gave me a list of cross training and strength work I can do while I heal. Let this be a lesson to everyone on this page - I tried 3 other doctors before overcoming my fear of seeing a chiropractor - we looked at infection, cysts, blood work, CT Scans, x-rays, ultrasounds...nothing on any of them. Dr. Smith, deals with runners - he is the go to guy for the Pasadena Pacers and other running groups in Pasadena. He listened, he took notes - he laid me down, said this will hurt and pushed in one spot - I went thru the ceiling. He knew what was wrong in a heartbeat! If I had done this first and not let my fear get the better of me I would not be off running 4 - 6 weeks. But, I can say - that I have no races planned until the very end of July so, if I do as I am told (which I will!) I should be good to go for San Francisco Half and all the fun races I would like to do in the fall. So, the timing was good! LOL I am so blessed to have Stephanie from I RUN California as my friend, she is the one who finally helped me get over my fear and see Dr. Smith. My hubby has been urging me to go and having another woman runner tell me to go, on top of my husband’s encouragement - that was the push I needed. Very grateful today and excited to play with a bunch of cross training for a few weeks! As for the cause - a combo of my partial hysterectomy last July and my custom orthodics not being right for me anymore (at least that is the best guess!). Together they may have created the perfect storm - put that with lots of miles and injury was the outcome. I am now ditching the orthodics, using a cool pad for my toes (will show pic in another post) and starting over. Sometimes life gives you a detour for your own good - the pain, exhaustion and overall sense of well being are all connected - today I am on my alternate route back to the main highway of running and it feels good to know I will be back stronger and healthier. :) Thank you Dr. Smith! Oh and a special thanks to Cesar at Breakthru Fitness for the recommendation!
