Just got home from visiting Gavin, his mama and Papa... This little guy makes all my problems seem so insignificant..he hasnt eaten in over 24 hours...hes exhausted, he has ports EVERYWHERE...IV in his leg, feeding tube in his tummy (which isnt feeding him yet), and a port in his chest...every so often an alarm goes off, telling his mom and dad his oxygen is low...Gavin is so sick of being poked and prodded and touched...so the mere act of trying to get oxygen anywhere NEAR his face is a task... I am in awe of his Mom, Christie Rozelle Steel, who is so patient while Gavin bats away the oxygen she is trying to give him, gently keeping his tiny hands from peeling at the tape holding his IV in, the little wire keeping an eye on his pulse and oxygen levels on his toe...all while stroking his hair and keeping an eye on what his nurses are doing...His Dad, Jay Steel, reads messages of support on his phone and tears come to his eyes when a new supporter comes forward, asking what they can do to help....
