Just shy of her third birthday, Maureen went with us to the Yuma County Fair. She met up with a friend of ours whose one son is Jacksons age and the other a few years older. Maureen was happy to tag along and hang out with all these older boys, and they were at an age where they didnt mind her presence. She felt brave enough to slide down on her own and went down several more times after this. She wanted to ride the mini-roller coaster, and the boys accompanied her. However, she wanted to keep riding and the boys wanted to move on. We let the boys go, and Maureen rode, and rode, and rode. Her face on that roller coaster has long been one of my favorites. Such thrill. As she got older, and would chicken out on rides, I would remind her of bravery when she was so little. (She left Hollywood Tower Of Terror- Disneyland in tears despite the elated face in the rides photograph!) She didnt think that she was missing out though. Miss that sweet self-confidence.
