KOKODA - Day 7 Today started extra early for a Dawn Service at the Brigade Hill Memorial which was very moving. After the service we ate scrambled eggs and bread (instead of the usual cereal) which was great! The heat was strong again today as we trekked out in the open sun, but the views were definitely worthwhile. As we arrived at Menari we were greeted with villagers selling various fruits and foods, so we had some delicious fresh pineapple and bananas for our morning tea. We were then blessed to have the local school children come down to sing for us which was beautiful. Together we had all brought a variety of medical supplies, school supplies and games that we distributed amongst the children and to their teacher. The track today required a lot of concentration as we crossed log bridges and carefully navigated the twisted tree roots beneath our feet. Kevin unfortunately twisted his ankle badly while [insert extravagant story here....]. The local witch doctor took a look at it in his own unique way and informed Kevin he was not allowed to get his foot wet for two days! This was disappointing for Kevin as the next part of the track involved crossing the Brown River, which was something he looked forward too. However, not many people can say they were carried across the Brown River and uphill all afternoon by their porters!! The porters were outstanding today and reminded me of The Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels and all that they did for our soldiers. I am truly grateful for the The Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels and our Trek Porters.
