KONZA Techno City A journey of a 1000 miles start with one mile. It was humbling to participate today on a well organized CEOs Breakfast summit where Kenya developers vowed to lead from the front and Engaged the Konza Techno City team ( KoTDA ) on this vision 2030 flagship projects. Keep up Kenya Property Developers Associations- KPDA. In attendance was 1. Kenya developers 2. Konza Board 3. KPDA board 4. KPDA CEO 5. Master delivery partner 2 ( MDP2) – Tetra Tech Team ( US) 6. Hon Regina (MP) 7. Kamba council of Elders 8. Other development partners Benefits of the project Ø Offer 17,000 jobs in phase 1 Ø 30,000 residential houses by the year 2017 Ø Develop the first 400 acres in phase 1 Ø Accommodate 200,000 by the year 2030 Ø Position Kenya as preferred ICT destination What developers want 1. Fairness in allocation of leases 2. Monthly updates on the development of this city 3. Quarterly meeting for engaging the working teams 4. Involvement of local companies in tendering for work, provision of services, design, and what to be done by locals to be done by locals 5. Control of the 10km zone around the Konza city 6. Information of how Konza will connect to Nairobi, Isinya, Machakos etc Lease agreement. It would be good to have a favorable lease for Kenya Companies Areas to look at 1. Detail each partys (Governemtn & Developers) financial responsibilities for any potential construction or landscaping on the common areas of the property. If your land lease agreement allows the developers to build residential or commercial structures on the property, we must explain who will pay/maintain/ for these improvements of common areas. 2. The lease period should be 99 years with minimal rent and lease charges 3. The lease should be registered with National government and not county government 4. The lease escalation should be friendly to Kenyans. We congratulate the governemnt, Kenya Private developers, Konza Board and all the Global partners. We are sure this project will leave a mark in Africa. We have no doubt that it will succceed. See details on georgewachiuri by- George Wachiuri, CEO , Optiven Limited
