Kabwe Zinc Mine Shuts Down over US $600 Tax Refund Dispute Kabwe Zinc Mine has become the first mining firm to close down following disputes with government over the US$600 million Value Added Tax Refunds. The Sable Zinc Mine belonging to Glencore owners of Mopani Mine has gone into care and maintenance throwing 170 workers out of employment. Recently Mopani Chief Executive Danny Callow had warned that Zambia risked losing 20, 000 jobs in the mining sector if the mines were not given their VAT refunds.
