Kakamega County is blessed with Natural Resources, Agricultural Lands, Cultural diversity, and a thriving Economy just to mention a few aspects that can spur growth and Development. The Jua Kali sector, a major employer of the abundant manual labour force has thrived under harsh economic challenges. The annual 7 billion devolved funds the County Government receives from the National Government could be used to improve business and lives of the locals and residents. The challenge we are facing is, the childrens food is being given to a neighbors children who already have their granary full of the previous harvest. Of late Contractors from other Counties are awarded contracts at the expense of the local on the basis of LACK OF CAPACITY. It leaves one wondering how a local contractor who has successfully run projects worth over Kshs. 50 million in the private sector suddenly lacks CAPACITY to build a market worth Kshs. 20 million. In our believe and expectations, much of these billions in contracts should be awarded to our local contractors (contractors who reside in Kakamega county) to inject working capital into our economy as our County. This will cause an upsurge in the consumption of locally available resources like building and construction materials, increased purchases from our local suppliers, and employment (even if it is temporary) of the local formal and informal manpower. I beg to ask; WHY DOESNT THE COUNTY GOVERNMENT GROW CAPACITY FOR OUR LOCAL CONTRACTORS AND HELP BUILD OUR ECONOMY?.
