Keeping a Positive Attitude While Looking for a Job – Staying positive while job searching is very hard. Watching a job search turn from weeks into months (or even years) can be discouraging. Once released form prison, its easy to feel resentment and, even worse, lose self-worth. Depression may sink in, and it might feel as if you are at the end of the line. Regardless of whats happening with your job search, the one thing you CAN be in control of is your attitude. Over the next several posts, we will share tips on keeping a positive attitude while job hunting. • Think about your feelings. People are often unaware when they are stressed or irritated. Do you sound angry? Does bitterness come across in your conversations? Become aware of how you come across to others. This is important because negativity will come across through your voice and body language in job interviews. Being more self-aware will help keep your emotions in check. Then, you can work on improving your attitude, which affects your mood. • Take care of yourself. Exercise – get outside and walk around the block, climb stairs, jog, or go to the gym. Start a daily exercise routine and stick to it as a part of your job search. By getting your heart and blood pumping, increasing your endorphins, and bringing oxygen to your brain, you will turn negative thoughts and feelings into positive ones. It will give you the energy, motivation, and positive self-worth you need to feel your best. Eat healthy, nutritious meals, and drink lots of water. Get lots of rest, at a reasonable hour. Practice self care and get dressed every day, even if you never leave the house – these things will make you look and feel good, and prepare you to reenter the workforce.
