Kelly Anne Griswold - Copyright 2012 Beautifully written! Soliloquy of a broken heart We were beach babies. Couldnt get in trouble without our parents knowing within the time it took to run home. The sun warmed our bodies and burnt our skin. The salt water cooled us down. The endless night beachfires soothed our restless souls. Watching the moon wax and wane, listening to the gentle roll of the waves, with Floyd easing the pressure of adolescence. We never inconvenienced neighbors. We never had altercations. We took to the beach for refuge from parental nagging, academia pressures and the claustrophobia of our childhood homes. We werent wealthy in finances, we were rich in friendship. The ties that bound in most instances still bind. As the proverbial door to my childhood closes, I ponder what if? What if Government had protected us better, the way our forefathers promised? What if the storm had just turned a few feet more? What if the storm had gone a little faster North? What if more concerned citizens had shouted louder? I thank God for friends who have become family. I thank God for my family that survived. I thank God that my son got to experience being a beach baby if only for six short years. The memories are irreplaceable. When I am in my golden years, I pray the Time does not rob my memories the way Sandy robbed my childhood home.
