Kelsi Letter, June 5, 2013 - Highlights Part 2: “Another weekend down. We leave tomorrow for our snow shoveling. This past weekend we hiked down Bridal Veil Creek to Ostrander Lake -- gorgeous! Then down to Chilnualna Falls in Wawona where we got to go on free carriage rides thanks to an awesome Ranger - who has a long, loving relationship with CCC trail workers. I’ve counted up the miles hiked with a full (40 lb+) pack on weekend trips - roughly 220 miles so far. Also. I’m very excited to see Kyel - in early July. Hiking was extremely challenging on my breathing during the first couple of weeks here - until I became more acclimated to the altitude. Still intense at times but far better now. This next weekend we’ll be hiking the Grand Canyon of the Tuoloume - lots of miles with supposedly some fascinating ancient pictographs in old caves, great sights, etc. Been taking as many pics as possible. Haven’t had to move any Sequoia trees yet, but did have to chainsaw about 30 big limbs off of a Sequoia-sized tree that conveniently fell parallel to the trail in the snow. Boy were my arms sore after that one. As I sit here writing I hear 3 or 4 “Whoos” off in the distance. I guess “Whoo” is keeping an eye on me. Swimming in remote, gorgeous waterfalls, playing pine-cone whiffle ball, cooking communal meals of backcountry leftovers and attempting to brush my hair once a week to keep it from becoming one huge dred-lock is tiring stuff. It’s bed time. Bye for now. Kelsi”
