Kenyas president has introduced a raft of measures to revive the countrys flat lining tourism sector. From June, businesses can claim tax deductions on cash used to pay for vacations for their staff taking holidays in the country. Air ticketing services will also be exempt from VAT. The government has also cut charges for national park visits and landing charges at the airports in Mombasa and Malindi, in order to boost traffic. Collectively, these measures are expected to reverse a trend where tour operators and hotels had begun laying off staff, following travel advisories that led to evacuation of tourists from the coastal town of Mombasa.
