Keshi set for face-off with authorities...........A fresh storm may be brewing in Nigerian football as Stephen Keshi seems set for a face-off with the Nigeria Football Federation and the Sports Ministry over attempts to foist a formal code of conduct on the Super Eagles. Minister of sports Bolaji Abdullahi recently set up a five-man committee headed by Segun Adeniyi to investigate the bonus row that broke out after Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying match against Namibia on June 12. The committee was also mandated to draft a formal code of conduct for the players to prevent similar embarrassments in the future. Keshi has, however, denied knowledge of the move to draft a code of conduct, insisting that he has not been officially notified. Keshi told Soccer Star that there is no need to draft a formal code of conduct since the team already has one. “Honestly, I’m just hearing about the code of conduct for the first time. I have not been detailed about it. I’m not going to comment much on it until the NFF officially informed me about it. It is only then that I will know what to do. “However, let me make it clear that the code of conduct has always been there. It simply means the rules that govern everybody in the camp, which everybody must respect. If it is to sign it to make it more effective, I don’t see it that way because we already have a code of conduct in camp.” Keshi insists. The Super Eagles coach went further to defend the discipline and maturity of his players, warning that attempts to force a formal code of conduct on them may trigger unpleasant consequences. “As I said, I think we already have a code of conduct in our heads and minds. There is discipline in my team because I always ensure that though my players are mature, I must know every detail about their movements. I always know where they are going and when they return. The most important thing is that we must learn to treat the players with respect. “We cannot just regard them as slaves simply because they are playing football. It is not going to work like that and I want to emphasise that will be the area we are likely going to have problem,” he warns.
