Kevin Sills, I totally get your drift, I disagree and still think MJ is the best, but you make very valid points on other players in their prime. Im old enough to remember the Dr. in his prime with the Afro and Chucks, but youre right ppl dont mention the Big O, Oscar Robinson, who ppl say was the Jordan of his time. I watched Kareem since I was a kid, cuz of the Skyhook amongst others. Heres my opinion as to why Jordan is G.O.A.T. Its totally on the impact he had on the game. Now before I start Im from Detroit, And I hated Jordan but Im no hater I give props to anybody that deserves it. And hands down he do. Now as for impact., MJ came in scoring 40 to 69 points against elite players in their prime. And understand he was the team, but Jordan came in the League, just good not great, but you see the potential just as you see with LeBron today. No one was quote jumping out the gym like he was. Dr. J was the standard until Mike came and took the Crown. This all before he became the Darling of the League. It was because of his Jumping ability Nike came to him with a shoe deal, thus Air Jordan 1985, others had deals before Jordan, I understand the medias role in his success but look at it today and he still outshines anybody in the room including Kobe and LeBron, outside of Ali. Which brings me to my next point this argument will always be, just like who was the greatest heavy weight ever, Ali, Louis, Marciano, and Tyson. 80% will say Ali, because of impact, Joe ruled the longest, But Marciano was undefeated. Different eras will always collide as to greatness. Bottom line the reason Jordan is the best because he became the Bullseye of the league and EVERYONE was gunning for him and still got that ass whooped. Now partly the difference as too greatness also was everyone you mentioned had a adversary Magic/Bird, Russell/Chamberlin/Jabbar, Dr. J/ Big O/Iceman also West & Berry. But Jordan had none on his level, not one. Dumars was the best to check him (Jordans own words) but even he couldnt stop him which should say to his credit he is the Best. And also Jordan was defensive specialist who on that list can say that. If you were the best at guard, hed shut you down well except for Joe, hed still get his 25 pts, lol but Jordan did it on both sides of the court, who else does that, oh Kobe Bryant and he got his game from who? That proves why Jordan is KING Damn the rings Russell didnt have shot clocks either, just like they didnt have 3 pts lines, so it balances out in my book.
