Khatam Mukhtasar Bukhari Date: Sunday 4 August 2013 Location: High Wycombe Reading of Mukhtasar al-Bukhari with Shaykh Khalid Abd al-Karim Turkestani (Makkah) The blessed collection of hadith compiled by Imam al-Bukhari has been read in gatherings down the centuries till the present day. A sign of the barakah contained within this text is that countless scholars found that a reading of this work resulted in the relieving of hardships, such that Imam Ibn Abi Jamrah said regarding Sahih al-Bukhari: “His book is not read at a time of hardship except that the hardship is removed, nor has it ever been carried on ship and that ship has sunk.” Seeking to obtain some of the blessings of this text, not least in the context of the numerous difficulties afflicting the Muslim community at an individual, local and international level we are pleased to announce the visit of Shaykh Khalid Turkestani of Makkah to the UK for a reading of Imam Ibn Abi Jamrah’s abridged version of Sahih al-Bukhari. Alongside this other texts will also be read, such as the Musalsalat of Shaykh Umar bin Hamdan al-Mahrasi as contained in the text Ithaf al-Ikhwan. About the Teacher Shaykh Khalid Turkestani was born in Makkah, being a third generation Bukharan whose ancestors had migrated from their homeland after the communist takeover of their country. He is a graduate in Islamic Studies from the Umm al-Qura University and in addition kept the close company of the great Makkan hadith master Shaykh Muhammad Yasin al-Fadani for 3 years and studied with a number of other scholars of the Hijaz such as Sayyid Muhammad bin Alawi al Maliki, with whom he studied all of Sahih al Bukhari over several years. His other teachers of the Hijaz include Sayyid Ahmad al-Ruqaymi and Shaykh Ismail al-Zayn al-Dahwi. He has been working as a full time primary school teacher for a number of years and currently teaches Sahih al-Bukhari in the school of Sayyid Abbas al-Maliki. His expertise lies in the area of hadith and more particularly asanid of the scholars of the Hijaz and their history. He has authored some works on biographies of scholars including their chains of transmission, some of which have been published and others in manuscript form. Location & Timings The lessons will be taking place at the Jamia Masjid (Jubilee Road) in High Wycombe, with the first lesson scheduled to start on Sunday the 28th of July. The Mukhtasar Sahih al-Bukhari will is scheduled to be read between 10am till 1pm each day, with the completion of the text taking place on Sunday the 4th of August at Maghrib time inshAllah. Other texts to be read will occur at other times in the day, timings of which will be finalised soon.
