LATE BENJAMIN ADEKUNLE...A HERO OR VILLAIN? By Val Iwuchukwu The news eventually came as it concerns the death of one of the villains of Nigeria civil war- Benjamin Adesanya Maja Adekunle aka Black Scorpion. I read where Pressy Jonathan and a few other Governors eulogised him as a great Nigerian. It was not a surprise to me that non of the Governors past or present from then Eastern Nigeria was part of such eulogy. One begins to wonder if that man Adekunle was great, if that is the case, the World Dictionary Association should summon emergency meeting to re-fix the meaning of greatness. When has being wicked, callous and criminal become characteristic features of greatness. I will not come down heavy on GEJ because he is my president. Moreover one appreciates the fact that many a time a President can say something his inner self does not approve. That is talking of being Presidential. Let us keep the eulogy aside and concentrate on the man Adekunle and his exploits as the Commander of 3rd Marine Division of Nigeria Army during the Nigeria civil war. As a Christian the first thing that crossed my mind when I heard about his death was “may God forgive him of his sins and grant him eternal peace”. The truth is that if God were to appear in His Glory to announce that He has forgiven Benjamin Adekunle of all his sins, I will be one of those that will raise our hands with due respect and humility to shout “point of information, my Lord and my God”. I am not being blasphemous, God Himself will understand. Or how can forgiveness come so easy to a man that upped barbarism and senseless killing to the highest padestal? Where is that eternal justice promised us in various holy books? I will remind Baba God that Adekunle was a man who was physically weak, intellectually poor but eternally wicked. The story was told how while Muritala Mohammed, T Y Danjuma, Aremu Obasanjo and several others that offerred themselves as willing tools and pun in the hands of Yakubu Gowon were hunting able bodied men in Biafran territory, Adekunle specialised in hunting down unarmed and defenceless women especially pregnant women for torture and rape before slaughtering them in a heartless manner. Many expectant mothers had their stomach ripped open with suyas knife to complete the murder of the developing babies. Adekunle became famous and a hero to his likes for his natural hatred for the industrous and “proud” people and the manner he sought to annihilate them. I also read from the LAST PATROIT that he was a man the smell of decomposing bodies of Igbo people appeals in a manner designers perfume of most exquisite fragrance appeals to Hollywood stars and celebrities. And that he preferred flower pots made of human skull than one caste in solid gold or even decorated with diamond is true. It is difficult to believe that a human being created by God can deprave to such abominable level. No doubt his cerebelum was stunted and his frontal brain became the master in line with Luciferian principles. The result was a great fall and a spark of anti christ took on form to blosoom. I am not talking ill of a dead man but I am merely pointing out the hard facts about our history. The evil that men do lives after them but it is like a part of Adekunles evil lived with him. I read that the last ten years of his life was like the seventh stage of Shakespear description of the twilight years of life on earth thus...sans eyes, sans teet, sans taste, sans everything. He died a slow, painful, installmental dead. The people of the former Eastern Region will forgive dramatis personae of the pogrom they christened war but they will not forget until all of them from Gowon to Obasanjo, Theophilus Danjuma etc are brought to justice for war crime. Or alternatively, they show remorse, apologise and spear head the call for reparation. Or else, a single cell apartment in the hottest part of hell awaits them when they eventually cross over to join Benjamin Adekunle. Life is too short and there is no time left. The millions of dollars they acquired from oil well which was used to compensate them will thereafter amount to nothing. As for that embodiment of evil called Adekunle, he may be continually raped by the devil himself. It will be like forcing barbed wire into his rectum. That is the promise of the natural law because whatever a man sows that he MUST reap. It is expected that in future a Hall of SHAME will be built beside the War Museum. There, Benjamin Adekunle will be in the first class cabin of the upper level, Gowon, Danjuma, Obasanjo and their likes will equally get a place at a lower rung not far from Adekunle. Hall of FAME might be equally established where people like Soyinka, Fawehnmi, Catholic Bishops, Clegy men from SW that called spade a spade will be honoured. May God forgive Benjamin Adekunle of his sins and grant eternal repose of his soul... Amen!
